About symplistic.ai
symplistic.ai is a fast-growing enterprise AI company with offices in Florida and the Greater Toronto Area. We specialize in agentic AI, enterprise products, and consulting, building intelligent systems for real-world business challenges.
We deliver production AI for major enterprises across financial services, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, healthcare, government, and more. Our high-velocity startup values ownership, execution, accountability, collaboration, and moving ideas into production.
About ContentIQ
ContentIQ is our enterprise AI knowledge and retrieval platform, securely connecting websites, documents, SharePoint, OneDrive, internal systems, and other sources to AI agents.
It combines enterprise search, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI document processing, governance, permissions, integrations, and observability for accurate, grounded AI at scale. As a knowledge layer for IBM watsonx Orchestrate and other AI agents, it connects enterprise information to intelligent workflows and conversations.
Role Overview
We seek a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead ContentIQ's development, quality, delivery, and operation. You'll mentor engineers while actively coding, making architectural decisions, and solving technical problems.
Working with our VP of Engineering and leadership, you'll set technical direction, prioritize delivery, support enterprise deployments, and improve performance, reliability, security, accuracy, and capabilities.
You'll own platform quality and production readiness: enforce standards, test features, resolve reliability issues, and improve AI accuracy and consistency. You'll work directly with customers on implementation, deployment, troubleshooting, and production issues.
This is NOT a management-only role. You must write production code, review implementations, challenge architecture, solve difficult problems, and help a small, high-performing team move quickly.
Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering Leadership & Execution
- Lead engineers developing, delivering, and operating ContentIQ; own quality, testing, and production readiness.
- Partner with the VP of Engineering on architecture, priorities, and product roadmap.
- Translate business and customer requirements into technical plans; own sprints, prioritization, execution, and timelines.
- Mentor engineers; review technical designs, code, and pull requests; identify risks, remove blockers, and uphold standards.
Hands-On Software Development
- Actively write production code for new features and platform improvements alongside engineers.
- Build Python/React applications, backend services, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
- Develop RAG pipelines, document ingestion, retrieval, enterprise search, and AI agent integrations.
- Own complex features from design to deployment; debug failures, refactor and optimize code, and deliver sustainable fixes.
- Establish reusable components, development patterns, and architecture; solve technical problems rather than only delegate.
Product Quality, Testing & Reliability
- Own ContentIQ's quality, stability, maintainability, and production readiness; enforce code review, release, and deployment standards.
- Validate functionality, performance, reliability, and security; strengthen automated, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Improve AI accuracy, retrieval relevance, grounding, citation quality, and consistency; evaluate RAG, document processing, and LLM capabilities.
- Address hallucinations, ingestion and retrieval failures; strengthen logging, monitoring, observability, and alerting.
- Improve scalability, latency, fault tolerance, availability, and security for enterprise production.
Enterprise Deployments & Customer Support
- Support deployments, configurations, integrations, technical discovery, solution design, and implementation.
- Work directly with customers; own critical issues through investigation, root-cause analysis, resolution, and follow-up.
- Troubleshoot APIs, ingestion, document processing, retrieval, authentication, permissions, and integrations.
- Coordinate with engineering, product, and customer teams; turn recurring issues into product, architecture, documentation, and reliability improvements.
Architecture & Platform Development
- Evolve ContentIQ architecture, enterprise search, document intelligence, RAG, semantic retrieval, and data integrations.
- Support IBM watsonx, watsonx Orchestrate, and other enterprise AI integrations.
- Evaluate new technologies; balance innovation and speed with technical debt, security, scalability, and maintainability.
- Lead initiatives from concept through coding, testing, deployment, and production support.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5–10 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant hands-on development.
- Experience leading engineers, technical projects, or engineering teams; managing priorities, delivery, and accountability.
- Strong hands-on Python and React skills; willingness to write production code.
- Practical AI/ML experience and understanding of modern LLM application architectures.
- Experience with APIs, microservices, distributed systems, cloud applications, and SQL/NoSQL databases.
- Experience designing scalable, production-grade software systems.
- Strong testing, CI/CD, code review, debugging, monitoring, and production operations skills.
- Ability to improve quality, reliability, performance, and maintainability and resolve complex application, infrastructure, and integration issues.
- Clear communication with engineers, executives, customers, and nontechnical stakeholders; strong startup ownership.
Preferred
- Experience with RAG, enterprise search, knowledge management, document intelligence, or data intelligence.
- Knowledge of LLMs, embeddings, reranking, vector databases, semantic search, retrieval optimization, response evaluation, grounding, and hallucination reduction.
- Experience with Milvus, Zilliz, Pinecone, Weaviate, or similar vector databases.
- Distributed caching, performance optimization, agentic AI, and workflow orchestration experience.
- Familiarity with IBM watsonx, watsonx Orchestrate, OpenAI, Groq, or comparable AI platforms.
- Experience with secure multi-tenant applications, authentication, authorization, and role-based access controls.
- Enterprise deployments, integrations, production troubleshooting, and direct customer experience.
- Startup or high-growth technology experience.
