About the Opportunity
Our client serves thousands of commercial, industrial and institutional customers. The business has grown steadily through acquisitions and now operates across several Canadian provinces and in the U.S.
Finance is busy integrating new operating companies, standardizing how each one reports, and tightening controls across a growing group of Canadian and U.S. entities. The Senior Financial Analyst sits on a small, close-knit controllership team that reports up to the CFO.
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Financial Reporting, you’ll own month-end close for assigned entities. You’ll maintain the consolidated reporting workbook and be a key point of contact for the annual external audit. You’ll also work hands-on with multi-entity consolidations, intercompany, FX translation and acquisition accounting.
This role suits a CPA with public accounting training who wants broad controllership exposure in industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead month-end close for assigned Canadian and U.S. entities, including journal entries, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintain and improve the consolidated reporting workbook, including intercompany eliminations and FX translation/CTA calculations
- Prepare monthly reporting packages with variance analysis and clear commentary
- Act as a key point of contact for the annual external audit, preparing schedules and coordinating requests
- Account for acquisitions and support the integration of newly acquired entities, including helping subsidiaries with month-, quarter- and year-end close
- Reconcile payroll-related GL accounts across entities in partnership with the payroll team
- Support Canadian and U.S. corporate tax requirements, including quarterly U.S. updates
- Participate in inventory counts and related audit procedures
- Document and strengthen internal controls, prioritizing improvements by impact
- Standardize reporting templates and close documentation across the group
- Find ways to automate manual workarounds, improve data flows between systems, and shorten close cycle times
- Research technical accounting questions and support system integration work as it comes up
What You Bring
- 4–7 years of accounting experience, ideally including 3+ years in public accounting (audit/assurance)
- CPA designation preferred. Candidates who have written or are awaiting CFE results, or who hold an equivalent designation, will also be considered
- Working knowledge of acquisition accounting and multi-entity consolidations
- Solid grounding in month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
- Intermediate Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, lookups)
- Strong attention to detail and analytical judgment
- Comfort working across several ERPs and legacy systems, and a habit of finding better ways to do things
- Clear communication with stakeholders across accounting, payroll, billing, FP&A, audit and tax
Nice to Have
- Big 4 or mid-tier (Big 6) public accounting background
- ASPE reporting experience
- Exposure to Acumatica, QuickBooks or a construction/industry-specific ERP
- Experience with Canada/U.S. cross-border entities or acquisition integration
